Amanda was overwhelmed by the generosity of our community during her recent Christmas Appeal. So many generous local individuals, families and organisations donated food, toys, toiletries, gifts and pet food to help those less fortunate in our community.
Thank you to the many local individuals and families who donated, and to the various local organisations - Noarlunga SES, Goodstart Early Learning Sheidow Park - Young Street, Woodend Preschool and Nursery, Southern Montessori School, 50+ Activity Club, Morphett Vale Tennis Club, Hallett Cove Chemplus and Oasis Family Church.
Also thank you to the charities Amanda partnered with this year who ensured all donations were given to people in our local community - Anglicare SA, The Vines Uniting Church, St Vincent De Paul Society Noarlunga Conference, Junction Australia and RSPCA South Australia.
Amanda will be holding her Winter Appeal again this year to assist those struggling in the cooler months. Keep an eye out for further details as we approach winter.
Amanda again recognised some of our most talented local sports stars in her recent Local Sporting Champions ceremony.
11 young sporting stars were chosen by a community panel to receive Local Sporting Champion grants due to their passion, talent and commitment to the sport and their sporting community. A variety of sports were recognised, including ice skating, futsal and cross country running.
If your child is competing at a State or National level, they may be eligible for a Local Sporting Champions grant. The current round is open until the end of February and applications can be found here - http://www.ausport.gov.au/participating/local_sporting_champions
Amanda recently held her annual Southern Suburbs Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony - a day dedicated to celebrating some of the many volunteers who's commitment, passion and hard-work make our community a better place.
Amanda was joined by special guest speakers CEO of the RSPCA South Australia Tim Vasudeva, EO of Southern Volunteering SA Inc Mel White, Volunteer Coordinator of RSPCA SA Heather McAllister, and CEO of Volunteering SA&NT Evelyn O'Loughlin. Students from Port Noarlunga Primary School & Aquatic Centre also beautifully sung our national anthem.
The ceremony provided local organisations and our community at large with an opportunity to recognise and thank volunteers for their valuable contribution.
Amanda will again host this event in 2017.
Amanda recently held her biannual Welcoming the Babies ceremony - a great opportunity to officially welcome the newest members of our local community. It was an excellent day for the many bubs and families who came along, with so many great stalls held by local businesses and organisations. Special guest speaker Mem Fox provided many stories and a lot of laughs about being a Mum and author. Amanda will again hold two Welcoming the Babies ceremonies in 2017!
Amanda's 2016 Kindy Art Show was a wonderful afternoon with hundreds of local parents and children coming along to view the artwork submitted by young artists in the South. A big congratulations to the kindergarten directors who coordinated the submission of the fantastic artworks. Amanda is already looking forward to hosting the popular event again next year!
