Over 50 babies were welcomed into the Southern Adelaide community at Amanda's first Welcoming the Babies ceremony for 2017 on Thursday 8 June. It was a great day with many local families and caregivers attending.
Olympian Amber Halliday was the special guest speaker, and she spoke of her inspiring journey of parenthood and overcoming adversity. Many generous community organisations and businesses set up stalls and provided giveaways on the day, to help connect new parents with the services offered in our local area.
As always it was a fantastic morning and Amanda will host another ceremony in October.
Again this winter Amanda's office collected donations for those in need, and the office was again overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community.
Over 90 individuals and 20 community groups brought in donations of food, blankets, knitted beanies and scarves, clothes, toiletries, and animal food to help those in need during the cooler months.
It is thanks to the generosity of the local community that thousands of dollars of donations were made to local charities - Anglicare Christies Beach, Junction Australia, St Vincent de Paul Noarlunga Conference, Vines Uniting Church, Flinders Foundation, and the RSPCA.
Amanda again held her Kindy Arts show in April, one of her most popular community events.
With the assistance of local kindergartens, hundreds of local children put together their own masterpieces - including self-portraits, digital photography, and paintings.
Over 450 children, parents, caregives, and kindy staff attended the Arts Show to celebrate the efforts of the children.
Congratulations to all the talented local artists and a big thank you to the participating kinys - Qunliven Road, Reynella, O'Halloran Hill, Sunrise Morphett Vale ELC, Kerry Street, Calvary, Reynella Community Children's Centre, Christie Downs, Seaford Rise, and Morphett Vale East.

Amanda was overwhelmed by the generosity of our community during her recent Christmas Appeal. So many generous local individuals, families and organisations donated food, toys, toiletries, gifts and pet food to help those less fortunate in our community.
Thank you to the many local individuals and families who donated, and to the various local organisations - Noarlunga SES, Goodstart Early Learning Sheidow Park - Young Street, Woodend Preschool and Nursery, Southern Montessori School, 50+ Activity Club, Morphett Vale Tennis Club, Hallett Cove Chemplus and Oasis Family Church.
Also thank you to the charities Amanda partnered with this year who ensured all donations were given to people in our local community - Anglicare SA, The Vines Uniting Church, St Vincent De Paul Society Noarlunga Conference, Junction Australia and RSPCA South Australia.
Amanda will be holding her Winter Appeal again this year to assist those struggling in the cooler months. Keep an eye out for further details as we approach winter.
Amanda again recognised some of our most talented local sports stars in her recent Local Sporting Champions ceremony.
11 young sporting stars were chosen by a community panel to receive Local Sporting Champion grants due to their passion, talent and commitment to the sport and their sporting community. A variety of sports were recognised, including ice skating, futsal and cross country running.
If your child is competing at a State or National level, they may be eligible for a Local Sporting Champions grant. The current round is open until the end of February and applications can be found here - http://www.ausport.gov.au/participating/local_sporting_champions
