Thank you for visiting my web page. I would also like to sincerely thank the electors of Kingston for returning me as their representative in Federal Parliament. I am proud of what I have been able to deliver for the South over the past three years and I am humbled to have been given the opportunity to continue to work with the community to make the South an even better place to live and raise a family.
I am proud to call the beautiful beaches and renowned vineyards of Southern Adelaide my home. As a local resident and the federal representative for this region, standing up for the South is my top priority. I am committed to working with all levels of government to deliver more services and better facilities for residents and businesses in Adelaide’s Southern Suburbs.
I believe that by working together as a community we can get the best deal for the South. I understand what is important for local residents and businesses because I spend my time out in the community actively listening to what people want for our community. I fought hard for the extension of the Noarlunga rail line to Seaford. This historic Federal Labor Government infrastructure investment will deliver greater transport flexibility for local working families, seniors and students well into the future.
As a former practicing Psychologist working alongside General Practitioners in the delivery of mental health care to the community, I understand how critical it is that all Australians have access to quality health care. I am delighted that interim primary health care services will be available at the $25 million Noarlunga GP SuperClinic as early as the end of 2010. I fought hard to secure a headspace facility for the South. I welcomed the recent announcement that a re-elected Labor Government will establish a site at Noarlunga within a year. This youth-specific mental health service will improve the access of local young people aged between 12 and 25 years to mental health care and related drug and alcohol services.
I understand that residents and businesses are frustrated by slow broadband speeds and lack of access to modern internet facilities. I will continue to fight hard to secure high speed broadband for the South so that we can build an even more prosperous and progressive community.
I believe that by working together, we can improve our community for the benefit of all local families. A number of Sheidow Park residents recently expressed safety concerns about the lack of sufficient lighting at the park on the corner of Berrima Road and Southbank Boulevard. A petition I distributed to determine how families in the surrounding streets felt about this issue revealed overwhelming support for the proposal to improve lighting at the park. I fought hard for this local issue and welcomed the announcement that a re-elected Labor Government would provide $100, 000 funding to increase lighting and safety at the park. After speaking with a number of residents who are frustrated about the condition of Beach Road, I am now lobbying all levels of government for a workable solution to improve this road. For more information regarding my ongoing campaigns to improve our community, please contact my office on Ph 8186 2588.
The South is a great place to live, work and raise a family. However, I understand that there is still more to be done. I will continue to fight hard, both in parliament and in our community to build a competitive region capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
Together we can move forward and make the South an even stronger community.
Yours sincerely
