Welcoming the Babies!

Amanda took great pleasure in hosting the augural Welcoming the Babies ceremony recently to celebrate new births and to formerly welcome the newest members of the Southern Adelaide community. Parents and friends heard from a paediatrician from Flinders Medical Centre before being individually presented with a certificate and gift bag. Following the formalities, a number of enjoyable activities were organised for the children and parents were able to browse stalls with information about local services over morning tea. Amanda decided to host this event because she believes a sense of community is important for young people and because she believes that community is a useful support for new parents. With over 50 babies registered for the first ceremony, Welcoming the Babies is clearly a popular event and so Amanda will be hosting further ceremonies in the near future. Read More.

More Support for Local Child Care Centres!

Following the recent news that eleven local child care centres in Southern Adelaide are set to benefit from one-off grants of $5000 to help them to transition to the National Quality Framework, Amanda recently visited several local child centres including the Noarlunga Community Children's Centre, the Hackham West Children's Centre and Stepping Stone at Christie Downs. Amanda enjoyed the opportunity to speak with local directors about their centres and, of course, to meet lots of lovely children from the local area and to join them for a quick game or two! NBN Switches On in Willunga

There was a discernable buzz of excitement in the Willugna township as National Broadband Network services were officially switched on. Senator Stephen Conroy MP, Minsiter for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy joined Amanda at Willunga High School to flick the switch, making modern internet facilities widely available to businesses and residents in the Willunga community. Willunga is the first location in SA to gain access to high speed broadband services through the NBN and the significance of this was certianly not lost on those who attended the ceremony.
