2009-10 Federal Budget Announcements

The 2009-10 Labor Government’s budget will support jobs and small businesses by investing in nation-building infrastructure while charting a course to return the Budget to surplus.

Labor Government delivers $291 million to extend Seaford rail line Seaford
After intense lobbying from the community and local Federal MP Amanda Rishworth, the 5.5km extension of the Noarlunga line to Seaford is full steam ahead.

Additional $228 Million to Help secure Adelaide’s Water supply
The Australian Government will commit a further $228 million to the Adelaide desalination Plant if capacity is expanded from 50 gigalitres to 100 GL per year, reducing South Australia’s reliance on the Murray River

$3.05 to upgrade Victor Harbor and Main South Road intersection Federal funding to support our local councils upgrade and maintain local roads

  • Over $1.6 million to support City of Onkaparinga Council
  • Over $600,000 will be provided to the corporation of the City of Marion council through the roads to Recovery Fund

Federal Government Targets Local Black Spots
Following projects will receive funding to repair dangerous section of local roads:

  • $235,000 – McLaren Flat Wickham Hill Road
  • $185,000 – Willunga Meadows Road

$3 million to redevelop Port Noarlunga Foreshore
The funding will invest in community and sporting facilities to create local jobs and stimulate the local economy during the global economic recession

 133 Computers arrive at Tatachilla Lutheran College
First round of the $1.9 billion Australian Government National Secondary School Computer Fund, have been delivered to in the electorate of Kingston.

Funding to support Community infrastructure
The $800 million community Infrastructure Program is the largest ever one-off Federal investment in local infrastructure across Australia.

  • $325,000 – Marion City Council
  • $1,345,000 – Onkaparinga Council

The Labor Government delivers $26.5 million to 10 Primary Schools in the South in first round of P21 funding
10 primary schools in Kingston will share $26.5 million for major new infrastructure projects under Round One of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) program.

$1.124 million to fund services at the Noarlunga Family Relationship Centre until 30 June 2011.

Additional Money for After Hours GP Services in the South
The Member for Kingston, Amanda Rishworth announced today that additional General Practice After Hours grants have been provided to support after-hours GP services in Morphett Vale, Aldinga and Sheidow Park.

$64,000 GRANT AWARDED FOR LOCAL INNOVATION
Local company Global Tough Alloys Pty Ltd, was awarded a Commercialising Emerging Technologies (COMET) AusIndustry grant by the Australian Government to help commercialise its Chromium White Iron alloys.

$496 473 to support carers of people with mental illness or intellectual disability in the South East Metro HACC region
The Australian Government will provide an additional $496 473 over two years to Anglicare SA, Mental Illness Fellowship of SA, Mind Australia and YMCA SA in The South East Metro Home and Community Care (HACC) region to expand respite options and increase carers’ access to training and information services and early intervention programs.

Round One of National School Pride program delivers funding to 44 local schools
44 local schools in the Kingston electorate will receive over 6 million dollars for minor infrastructure projects under Round One of the National School Pride (NSP) program.

Social housing construction supports vital jobs in Kingston
20 new social housing dwellings will be built in the electorate of Kingston thanks to a Federal Government commitment totalling $6,110,900 million dollars. This project is part of Stage 1 of the social housing stimulus component of the Australian Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.

MEDICARE-ELIGIBLE MRI UNIT FOR MORPHETT VALE
An additional Medicare-eligible magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service will be provided to the residents of Adelaide’s southern suburbs.

The Labor Government’s $42 billion Nation Building and Jobs Plan delivers a welcome investment in local infrastructure and supports jobs in Kingston.

1,559 Computers to Southern Adelaide Schools
A total of 10 local secondary schools will have access to 21st Century technology through new funds under the National Secondary School Computer Fund.

Member for Kingston reminds parents of school children in Southern Adelaide to keep their receipts for education expenses as they prepare for the new school year.

KINGSTON TO DEMONSTRATE BENEFIT OF FRESH FOOD
Children at Woodend Primary and O’Sullivan Beach School will soon enjoy the benefits of growing, preparing and sharing fresh food as part of the national Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The Labor Government has committed up to $60,000 for kitchen and garden infrastructure for both schools to implement the program.

Kingston receives nearly $30,000 from 2008 Volunteer Grants Program
Eleven Community organisations in the Kingston Electorate will receive nearly $30,000 from the Australian Government’s 2008 Volunteer Grants Program.

Labor Government prioritises the $456 million Seaford Rail Extension
The Labor Government’s Audit of the Nation’s Infrastructure which lists the $456 million extension of passenger rail services to Seaford as one of the 94 infrastructure proposals for prioritisation.

$34,909 TO SUPPORT LOCAL VETERAN COMMUNITY
Southern Adelaide Veteran community will receive $34,909 in funding from the Australian Government to support the local veteran community. • McLaren Vale & District RSL Sub-branch Inc will receive $19532 • Fleurieu Peninsula Veterans Community Association Incorporated will receive $15,377

$3,000 SUPPORT FOR WILLUNGA HIGH SCHOOL
The Willunga High School has received $3,000 in funding from the Labor Government. The funding had been approved by Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Alan Griffin, as part of the Saluting Their Service commemorations program.
