SUBJECTS: Labor’s commitment to Darwin Toy Library, Labor’s National Preschool and Kindy Program
MEL LITTLE: Amanda Rishworth MP who joins me on the phone now. Hi Amanda.
AMANDA RISHWORTH, SHADOW MINISTER FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT: Hi Mel, how’s it going?
A Shorten Labor Government will give our ADF members choice to select their issued boots for service - our ADF members aren’t one size fits all, and their boots shouldn’t be, either. Our military personnel are our most critical ADF capability. It is vital they are well equipped to perform at their best and deliver on their mission. ADF members work day in, day out, in their kit and, like us, our ADF personnel are not one-size fits all.
The latest quarterly report on child care fees confirms what most families already know - child care fees continue to rise under the Liberals.
Since the election of the Liberals in 2013, total child care fees have grown by more than 20 per cent (to March 2018).
I rise to second the Education chapter of the National Platform.
This is a chapter that reflects core Labor values.
Labor has always invested in education because only Labor believes education is the greatest investment we can make in the future of our country.
Today’s MYEFO once again delivers nothing for our pre-schoolers.
Under the Liberals there is no funding for preschool after 2019 and MYEFO reiterates this. There is only 12 months left of funding - but this government couldn’t care less.
LABOR WELCOMES EXPANSION OF GOLD CARD TO SEATO NURSES AND MEDICAL TEAMS BUT GOVERNMENT MUST RULE OUT DVA CLOSURE - 16 DECEMBER 2018
Labor welcomes the announcement of the expansion of the Gold Card to include South East Asia Treaty Organisation (SEATO) Nurses and Medical Teams.
It is important that we support those who have served our nation, and we are pleased that the Government has chosen to do so notwithstanding the Productivity Commission’s draft report stated;
“It is the Commission’s view that eligibility for the Gold Card should not be expanded to any new categories of veterans or dependants that are not currently eligible for such a card.” (p.33)
PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION’S DRAFT REPORT INTO COMPENSATION AND REHABILITATION FOR VETERANS - FRIDAY, 14 DECEMBER 2018
Labor will read through the details of the draft report by the Productivity Commission into Compensation and Rehabilitation for Veterans which has been released today.
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) was established almost a century ago as part of Australia’s commitment to its WWI veterans.
BOWEN & RISHWORTH - MEDIA RELEASE - MORRISON MUST PROVIDE FUNDING CERTAINTY TO FOUR YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL - FRIDAY, 14 DECEMBER 2018
In its biggest snub yet, the Liberals have neglected to place preschool funding on the agenda for today’s Education Council meeting of ministers.
Even though funding for preschools expires in 12 months, the Abbott Turnbull Government could not be bothered to list it on the agenda.
Labor’s National Preschool and Kindy Program will see a $509 million investment for children in New South Wales and deliver two years of subsidised early learning.
In October this year, Labor announced our plans to extend preschool access to three year olds and commit to ongoing funding for four year old preschool.
Recent reports of families worse off under the Liberals unfair child care changes once again demonstrate how cruel the cuts to families as a result of the government’s child care changes.
It has been six months since the Liberals changes took place, which means it has been six months since 1 in 4 families across Australia were left worse off.
